Art Stage Jakarta 2016
HALL A, Booth A2
Wei-Ling Gallery is delighted to join Art Stage in their first edition of the fair in Jakarta. This will be the gallery’s first outing in the city and they are excited about the prospect of introducing contemporary Malaysian art to Indonesian collectors. Representation of Malaysian art has been thin on the international front so regional fairs like this, are important platforms.
The gallery will be showing a key selection of represented artists to present a cross-section of artists working in Malaysia at the moment, namely important socio-political commentator Anurendra Jegadeva, established printmaker Juhari Said, prominent abstractionist Hamidi Hadi, pop-artist Wong Chee Meng, photographer and painter Chin Kong Yee, exciting, emerging artist Sean Lean and the leading contemporary woman painter, Yau Bee Ling. The gallery will also be introducing the magnificent works of internationally recognized Pakistani sculptor Amin Gulgee who moulds copper into contemporary forms.
Art Stage Jakarta 2016 will be held from Aug 5 to 7 and will feature up to 50 international galleries. Leo Silitonga, who was previously fair director of Bazaar Art Jakarta in 2014 and 2015, comes on board as fair director.
“Art Stage Jakarta will be for the Indonesian art market and the art community there. Its focus will be on contemporary art from Indonesia and the audience we intend to reach will also be more domestic and regional compared to the international audience that Art Stage Singapore attracts,” said Lorenzo Rudolf, founder and president of Art Stage Singapore and Jakarta.
He added: “Indonesia is the heartbeat of Asia, injecting the region with energy, passion and creativity. It is the most active and influential art market in the region and is a leading centre of art production. Aligning our Singapore fair with our new branch in Jakarta, Art Stage Singapore will be able to offer seamless and comprehensive market opportunities as well as the latest cutting-edge content from the region.”
A highlight will be a curated museum-like exhibition of artworks to be presented at the Fair from the collection of six of Indonesia’s top collectors and members of the Fair’s Board of Art Patrons.
