3 New Artists
Cheong Tuck Wai, Low Lee Peng, Ng Geok Hwa

To kick off the New Year, Wei-Ling Gallery introduces ‘3 new artists’. Cheong Tuck Wai, Low Lee Peng and Ng Geok Hwa all graduated from art school in 2003. Under the tutelage of well-known figurative artist Kow Leong Kiang, these three young contemporaries have developed their own distinctive style of rendering the figure.

The winner of the Nokia Art Awards with his painting entitled “Gift” in 2003, Cheong Tuck Wai’s dreamy women in various sleeping positions display his deft handling of paint and his ability to render the human form from all perspectives.

Low Lee Peng’s quiet, detailed works show the dexterity and skill of an artist far beyond her years. Combining a potent mix of surrealism with her ever present silent girl, Lee Peng’s works possess an unmistakable style that distinguishes her works from her peers.

Ng Geok Hwa’s fascination of the female form is evident from her sensuous renditions of the naked body. Her close-ups of the body are a breathtaking mix of colour, light and form.

Not to be missed, ‘3 New Artists’ runs at Wei-Ling Gallery from January 4th – January 24th 2006.
