Imbasan
Hamir Soib

In July 2007, Wei-Ling Gallery presents “Imbasan”, solo exhibition of paintings by the enigmatic Malaysian artist Hamir Soib.

For the second instalment of his solo exhibition, the first of which was held at his studio Gudang in 2005, Hamir Soib brings together a selection of works made between 2005-2007.Charting fresh territory with the experimentation of new materials and techniques, the latest works are varied and disparate, yet maintain a common theme about them.

A graduate from the renowned Malaysian art institution UITM, Hamir Soib is also one of the founding members of the progressive art group Matahati. Having worked on numerous large-scale pieces as a result of undertaking commissions to paint backdrops for theatre productions, Hamir Soib’s own paintings are mostly executed on ‘larger than life’ canvases. As a Malaysian artist, living and working in Kuala Lumpur, in the 21st century, his monolithic works are representative of the times we live in, and this body of works are a witty, sometimes cynical look at what the country and its people have become.

Hamir Soib’s solo exhibition, Imbasan, features at Wei-Ling Gallery,8 Jalan Scott ,Brickfields , Kuala Lumpur 50470, Malaysia from 17th July-10th August 2007.
