Timang-Timang, Hamidi Hadi’s third solo exhibition describes this Malaysian artist’s new body of work, as it has allowed him to arrive at a point of resolution and calm in his oeuvre of works.After many months of searching and experimenting with his materials, Polytheurine, resin and enamel gloss paint he realized that what he wanted to document in these works was the actual ‘act’ of painting, which in turn also mirrored his decision and thought -making processes. Being the ‘layering’ maestro that he has become known for in his cavernous, intense abstract canveses, Hamidi has once again concentrated on the layering effect of his materials but this time with the use of different tools to push and explore the limits of his material and to above-all create luminosity on his painted surface.It is this intense desire to ‘involve’ the viewer on his canvas, that has driven each of these 20 new works into the masterpieces that they have become, resplendent in the glory of their observers.

For Hamidi Hadi, the Timang-Timang series may have allowed him some form of closure in their creation, however the journey resumes as he continues to see the endless possibilities that his materials afford him.
