Art inspired by nature
AFTER spending a year completing his Masters in Landscape Design at the Nanjing Forestry University, China, Chong Choon Woon returned to Malaysia armed with a series of large canvases depicting the breathtaking vistas of Nanjing.
These monumental works display the impact the environment had on him, both visually and emotionally, all of which are reflected in his paintings.
His brushstrokes are confident and expressive, sweeping across the canvas in a flurry of colours, layered one upon the other. Using a muted palette, Chong’s paintings reflect a feeling of nostalgia and longing.
His use of space is best demonstrated in works like Wind, the Spirit Mountain and Spirit World series.
Chong is currently exhibiting his works at Wei-Ling Gallery at Jalan Scott, Brickfields.
The show runs until Oct 28.
