INTERNATIONALLY-renowned metal sculptor Amin Gulgee will be showcasing his latest works in his solo exhibition “Body And Soul” at Wei-Ling Gallery in Kuala Lumpur from Aug 7 to 30.

Born in 1969 in Karachi, Pakistan, Amin is the son of legendary Pakistani artist Ismail Gulgee.

A graduate of Yale University in the United States, he has exhibited his works in the US, Europe and West Asia.

This is his second exhibition in Malaysia. His first was “The Search For Light” in 2004.

Amin is an innovator of tradition. His medium is metal, and his inspiration the rich and varied spiritual history of his home country. His work ranges from abstract to Hindu mythology, Islamic calligraphy and Buddhist art. They depict the spirituality of humankind and the common values which unite people.

Amin’s works have been sought by individual collectors, as well as public and private institutions. He has also been commissioned by the Pakistani government to create public sculptures, including Minar at Karachi’s Quaid-e-Azam International Airport.

His latest masterpiece is the 13-metre high Forgotten Text, jointly sponsored by Glaxo Smith Kline, Merck Marker, Pakistan State Oil, Pakistan Tobacco Company and Siemens. It stands at a roundabout in Karachi.

In 2005, Amin was honoured with the esteemed Pride of Performance Award, which is only bestowed upon individuals who have attained iconic stature in their field of excellence, by President Pervez Musharraf of Pakistan.

“Body And Soul” will bring together his geometric calligraphy and figurative works and also feature Amin’s unique, sculptural jewellery pieces.
