Wei-Ling Gallery\u2019s resident artist Chun Wei is back with a much anticipated exhibition entitled \u2018Here and Now\u2019. Chun Wei, who is the recipient of Freeman Foundation Residency in Vermont, USA, offers a series of investigative study of 3-dimensional pieces in this exhibition.<\/p>\n

The works, which took four years to complete, allowed Chun Wei to physically \u2018feel\u2019 the space and approach his inspirations through a whole new light of artistic flair.<\/p>\n

According to the statement released by the gallery, the artist has spent time \u201cexploring and investigating his visual language through the bold use of found objects, and the incorporation of multiple layers onto the surface of his works in order to create a wonderful textured and tactile finish.\u201d<\/p>\n

What served as inspirations for Chun Wei were various social issues such as materialism, consumerism and urban life. According to the artist, the colourful artworks are reflective of the environment we are living in today as it highlights issues of social ills and how city-living can rob one of real values in life yet at the same time create an artificial environment that we can escape into when we want to run away from the realities of life.<\/p>\n

\u2018Here and Now\u2019 by Choy Chun Wei is exhibited at Wei-Ling Contemporary, The Gardens Mall, from October 10 to November 2, 2011.
\n\u2018Here and Now\u2019 will also be exhibited at Wei-Ling Gallery, 8 Jalan Scott, Brickfields, from November 8 \u2013 November 23, 2011.<\/p>\n
