Just as Yusof Ghani has drawn reference to the swirl of energy, drama and dynamism present during a cockfight, Multhalib\u2019s \u2018Twist\u2019 works similarly echo this mood.<\/p>\n<p>Multhalib Musa can be regarded as one of Malaysia\u2019s leading contemporary sculptors. Despite his relatively young age, Multhalib Musa has become known for his decidedly \u2018fluid metal sculptures\u2019 which seem to have been effortlessly carved out of metal. The contradiction of transforming a hard material like metal into a supple, pliable form which catches and bounces light off it, reflects Multhalib\u2019s interest in exploring light and the manipulation of his medium. This in part stems from his educational background-an architect by training, he pursued his Bachelor\u2019s Degree in Design Studies from the University of Adelaide in Australia, thereafter returning to Malaysia to obtain his Bachelor of Architecture from MARA University of Technology,in 2000. It has been a productive eight years for Multhalib Musa as a professional artist,for he has been granted numerous awards and residencies,in recognition of the work that he has done.<\/p>\n<p>He was selected for the Rimbun Dahan Residency in 2001,and was the recipient of the Australian High Commission\u2019s Gunnery Studios Residency Award in 2004. In 2002 he was honoured with the Second Prize Award of Excellence at the 6th Oita Asian Sculpture Exhibition &amp; Open Competition in Japan and in the same year the National Art Gallery, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia presented him with the Juror\u2019s Award at the Young Contemporaries Awards Exhibition.In 2003,he received an Honourable Mention at the Philip Morris Malaysian Art Awards.
