Sing to the land of my heart
Cheong Kiet Cheng

Wei-Ling Gallery is pleased to present Sing to the land of my heart, a solo exhibition by emerging Malaysian contemporary artist, Cheong Kiet Cheng. Featuring paintings on canvas, this exhibition marks the artist’s second solo exhibition and the first with the gallery.

Kiet Cheng’s latest body of works explore the laws of the universe where all beings in this space go through the impermanent process of birth, aging, sickness and death. She uses images of humans, animals, flowers and plants to convey love, beauty, and life and death. For although beauty is not forever, decaying is not necessary ugly. However, unavoidably, we all have to live and cope with the acceptance of transience and imperfection.

“I hope through my paintings one can discover and record the simple inner beauty of a heart. It is a dream, where that pureness and simplicity is retained. It might be different to reality, but nevertheless I still wish to explore the innocence of my mind, dreams and imagination.

The world we live in, what we see, hear and feel, they are a projection of the mind. It is as though we are living in a shell. The brain is the receiver, but there is also a soul and I hope my works can project love and beauty to those who come into contact with my work.

I just simply want to record what I feel and express my ideas of love through my paintings.”

Cheong Kiet Cheng (b.1981) lives and works in Kuala Lumpur. Her works have been shown in galleries around Malaysia and in the Philippines.
