Walking on the Moon
Amin Gulgee

Wei-Ling Contemporary is pleased to present Walking on the moon, an exhibition of new works by renowned Pakistani sculptor, Amin Gulgee. Featuring large-scale bronze and copper sculptures, this exhibition is the gallery’s fifth solo show of Gulgee’s work, an artist who has been the subject of over 40 solo exhibitions since the early 90s.

Amin Gulgee’s works are inspired by Islamic traditions of architecture and metal work. His creations synergise Hindu mythology, Buddhist asceticism and Islamic calligraphy to explore the underlying spirituality of man.

The artist’s work has ranged from abstract sculpture to wearable jewellery, from autobiographical forms depicting himself and his family to his ground breaking three-dimensional calligraphy. To bridge the gap between the viewer and art, he encourages for the sculptures to be touched and the jewellery worn close.

“I do not make my work; it makes itself. It demands to be brought into the world to occupy space. In my process, some threads are old and insist on reinventing themselves. Others appear new and fresh and these combine to create a tapestry that is woven and tells my story. It is a very old yet contemporary narrative which borrows, celebrates and questions tradition and history.” – Amin Gulgee

Amin Gulgee lives and works in Karachi. His works are in numerous private and public collections worldwide.

Walking on the moon will begin showing on 11th June and will continue until 4th August.
Wei-Ling Contemporary is located at RT01 Sixth Floor, The Gardens Mall, 59200, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
