18@8 pLAy x CzipLee & Decopatch

Wei-Ling Gallery is thrilled to host a charity auction in conjunction with ‘18@8 – pLAy’, proudly supported by CzipLee and Décopatch, in aid of SPCA Selangor (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). For this special evening, 13 Malaysian artists have been provided with Décopatch paper-mâché cat and dog figures to transform into unique art sculptures. These one-of-a-kind creations celebrate creativity, playfulness, and the whimsical joy of childhood nostalgia, offering a heartfelt reminder of the carefree spirit often forgotten in adulthood.

This charity auction is in collaboration with Décopatch and CzipLee, with Kikyo as the event partner.

The artists participating in this charity auction are: Anas Afandi, Anisa Abdullah, Chen Wei Meng, Cheng Yen Pheng, Cheong Kiet Cheng, Chin Kong Yee, Choy Chun Wei, Hamidi Hadi, Ivan Lam, Khabir Roslan, Sean Lean, Wong Chee Meng, and Yau Bee Ling.

CzipLee and Décopatch have provided the materials for the project. Each artist was free to let their imagination run wild, transforming the figures into playful and unique, one-of-a-kind art objects. The proceeds from the auction will go directly to SPCA Selangor, helping animals in need.

The event ties into the ongoing exhibition, 18@8 pLAy (pronounced “play la”), which ran from 3rd December 2024 to 31st January 2025. Featuring 16 Malaysian artists, the exhibition encourages us to reconnect with the simple joys of play, a concept that often takes a back seat in adulthood. In Malaysia, the word “la” adds warmth and personality to everyday conversations, perfectly reflecting the spirit of this show.
